Welcome to Umbono Fund Managers
Umbono was initially established in 1998 as a black-owned strategy consulting operation. The company then set up a financial services company, Umbono Capital, with asset management, stock broking and advisory services subsidiaries. Umbono Fund Managers (UFM), dedicated to index tracking, was the asset management business and shortly after its launch in 2001, Old Mutual bought a majority stake in this business. UFM therefore became the specialist quantitative tracker fund manager in the Old Mutual Investment Group boutique structure - rapidly increasing our assets under management to R42 billion today.
With the Umbono consulting and financial services businesses growing rapidly over the years, in both size and diversity of offering, there has been increasing brand confusion in the market. This has resulted in our decision to move away from the Umbono brand, which has also coincided with our expansion into international index tracking.
